The new trailer for Sparkle shines the spotlight on Ceelo Green, the hit recording artist who plays a supporting role in the movie.

The trailer opens with Green starting to perform “I’m a Man” on stage in a Detroit club. The entire song plays over the trailer, which is comprised of fleeting scenes from the movie, which stars Jordin Sparks, Whitney Houston, Derek Luke, Mike Epps, Carmen Ejogo, Tika Sumpter, Omari Hardwick,

It is easily the most effective trailer I’ve seen for the film, which opens Aug. 17 and features Houston’s final film performance. She plays the mother of three daughters who dream of stardom in the music world and who face difficulties along the way.

The soundtrack, which may do even bigger business than the movie, features new music by Houston, Sparks and Green.
