Marvel’s The Avengers, a massive James Bond collection and a new animated movie of Frank Miller’s Batman: The Dark Knight Rises all come out on Blu-Ray and DVD today.

The home video debut of the year’s highest grossing movie – and the best of the comic book superhero movies that dominated the summer – is a big deal. It is dwarfed, however (in sheer size if nothing else), by Bond 50: The Complete 22 Film Collection.
The collectible box set of James Bond movies is offering all of the 007 films in one collection for the first time. For five of the titles it is the first time they’ve ever been released on Blu-ray: Goldeneye, Octopussy, The Spy Who Loved Me, You Only Live Twice, The Living Daylights, Tomorrow Never Dies, Diamonds are Forever, A View to a Kill and On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
The set includes every James Bond movie made over the last 50 years from Dr. No to Quantum of Solace – and the box set includes an open slot for Skyfall, the latest Bond movie coming out in November.
Among the more than 130 hours of bonus features are Skyfall videoblogs that offer behind-the-scenes looks at the making of the new movie, which stars Daniel Craig as Bond and also features Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, Judi Dench and Naomi Harris.
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 is noteworthy because – unlike the just-completed Batman trilogy of movies directed by Christopher Nolan – the new animated film is an adaptation of Frank Miller’s much-admired graphic novel that influenced Nolan.
Peter Weller provides the voice of Batman/Bruce Wayne.
