Launched in 2009, MovieHouston features Houston movie news, previews, reviews and movie trailers. The website also frequently gives away free movie tickets to preview movie screenings and provides Houston movie show time and movie theater information.
Eric Harrison, MovieHouston’s editor and founder, has covered the film industry and written movie reviews professionally since 1998 when he began covering movies and writing film reviews for the Los Angeles Times. He also was chief film critic for the Houston Chronicle where his reviews were syndicated nationally by the New York Times Syndicate and Hearst news wire. Eric has been interviewed about movies and about Hollywood by television stations in France and Japan and in the United States by CNN and ABC.
Working in Los Angeles for the Times, Eric visited film sets, sat in on sound editing sessions and extensively interviewed film directors, stars, editors, visual effects artists, producers, cinematographers, production designers and screenwriters about the art of making movies. He wrote movie reviews, feature stories on film, critical essays and filmmaker / star profiles. For a sample of Eric’s writing for the Times and more background on his career, visit Eric Harrison Online.
In 2000, when the opportunity arose to return to his hometown as the chief film critic for the Houston Chronicle, Eric took it. He held that position for fiveyears, becoming senior entertainment writer in 2005. In that position, Eric branched out a bit, but his main focus remained movies.
He covered the Toronto International Film Festival, the Sundance Film Festival and South by Southwest for the Chronicle and wrote profiles, commentaries and feature stories on films and filmmakers until 2008 when he left the paper to pursue online ventures. He launched MovieHouston, focusing on the movie scene in the nation’s fourth largest city, in 2009.
